pretty much the same thing.  a big flurry of initial interest and then a few months later everyone just says the hell with it.

I can't figure out what to do with it to make it more interesting, or to attract more people to it.

not going anywhere... different server, doesn't cost as much to run since it doesn't need anything as heavy duty as messageboard software.  It too however is a virtual ghost town.  It was never super busy before, but the year long absence was too much to overcome I guess.

No idea, although the few times I've been over there it was super dead as usual.

Thing is, ISTM that all adult boards that are successful fall into one of five types:

1) Niche oriented boards that have but one purpose really (like S&M, big breasts, anime, etc)
2) Boards tied to porn sites (like tiava.com)
3) Dating sites
4) The site hosts adult videos
5) Chat rooms

There's really no way to change this board to any one of those.  :-\

yeah.  kind of confirms to me that the niche is pretty well filled at this point anyways.

it was mostly to support whatfreaks, and I could probably just make a simple no porn type messageboard for that site anyways.  What I can do, is move the messageboard back over to the server that hosts that other messageboard, and just keep it seperate with a no pictures policy.  I'll remove the other discussion boards, and just narrow it down to whatfreaks.  There's not even much discussion around whatfreaks anyways.

I'll make a final backup on Wednesday and put in a shut down request with the hosting company.

You're talking about moving the general discussion board here over to the 'clean' site, axing the pix and flix board althogether and making the parody board a part of whatfreaks?

not quite.  the nastypenguins domain will remain, and will contain two boards and no pictures.  It will be down for the weekend while I move it onto the same server as the clean board.

The flix/pix will go, and avatars will have to be 100% squeaky clean.  I think the dirty talk can still stay though.  I'm going to dump the links thing I quickly threw together as well.

I've got some big expenses coming up this year, and while normally I would just ride it out, I want to conserve money wherever I can.  This server costs quite a bit of money, and is way beyond what is needed for a board with little activity.

Since porn is clearly not an attraction for the site, I don't think dropping it will be a big deal.  I also think if it's not on there, it won't affect the other sites sharing the server, or cause issues with the hosting company due to content.  The site is so far under the radar, even my work doesn't filter it.

Fortunately, my Jiraiya avatar is cool on that level. ;D

I have tried to help out by making some threads that I thought could be of interest. But I usually have bad luck thread wise, regardless of where I start them.

That is a pretty good idea you thought of, would definetly be more effienct.

different server still.  I haven't moved the messageboard yet.  Probably do it this weekend.  I waited because I wanted to upgrade the software again.  Also trying to work out the birthday thing.  No one but us seems to have that issue for some reason.

I will admit that I loved these boards when we first got them, but then my interest did fade - almost completely out. Why? I really don't know. It was great fun and I loved looking for pics and jokes and such, I guess it was a phase I went through where I needed a place like this to sort of let off steam?!

I will try to come here more often
